We want to hear from you and get your impressions of what we have. But before you do that we would also like you to catch our vision for what the DevCloud is all about.
The cloud has been touted, for several years, as being the solution to infrastructure problems. Prior to the cloud, if your traffic peak is on Monday morning you needed to maintain the infrastructure the rest of the week. Cloud services, for the most part, do solve this problem. Even the Platform-as-a-Service providers primarily address the problem of managing infrastructure. They do it by creating an additional service layer on top of the infrastructure component that minimizes the need for system administrators.
But what if there were other problems that cloud services can solve that the cloud forerunners had not considered? For the most part the cloud has been sold as a solution for staging/testing and production. But could the cloud solve developer problems too? There are several developer solutions out there, but they are aimed at building production systems for the cloud. What if the cloud could offer solutions to regular problems that programmers faced on a daily basis?
We believe that there are a lot of problems that can be solved for developers. Some of our answers you can see. Many you cannot (because we haven't built them yet). We want to, of course, hear about problems you have with our current offering, and even whether or not you think developing in the cloud is a mistake (we would respectfully disagree). But what we really want to know is WHAT would make you interested in building your applications IN the cloud, not just FOR the cloud.
You think that this idea is so cool that you want to help it achieve developer tranquility as soon as possible. You do so by clicking on Provide Feedback on the top of the UI or emailing kevin@zend.com with your thoughts.
